چکیده

We describe the upgrade and performance of high-purity germanium counting facility Gator, which is dedicated to low-background $\gamma$-ray spectrometry. Gator operated at Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory in Italy, an average depth 3600 meter water equivalent, employed for material screening selection ultra-low background, rare-event search experiments astroparticle physics. The detector equipped with a passive shield made layers copper, lead polyethylene, sample cavity purged gaseous nitrogen maintained positive pressure radon suppression. After upgrading its enclosure, background rate (82.0$\pm$0.7) counts/(kg$\cdot$day) energy region 100 keV 2700 keV, 20% reduction compared previously reported rate. show stability various operation parameters as function time. also summarize analysis procedure, demonstrate Gator's sensitivity by examining one sample, candidate photosensor DARWIN experiment.

High purity germanium detector in gamma-ray spectrometry

We measured full energy peak efficiency of High-Purity Germanium detector which is important for gamma-ray spectrometry experiments. A brief but very effective description on the basic formation of detector crystal and creation of signal pulse has been presented here. This article is furnished in such a way that the contents find useful and interesting to physics and electronics students, educa...

The Extragalactic Γ Ray Background

One way to understand the nonthermal history of the universe is by establishing the origins of the unresolved and truly diffuse extragalactic γ rays. Dim blazars and radio/γ galaxies certainly make an important contribution to the galactic γ-ray background given the EGRET discoveries, and previous treatments are reviewed and compared with a new analysis. Studies of the γ-ray intensity from cosm...

Measuring γ–ray dose of terrestrial samples using β-γ Spectrometry

Background: The existence of some radionuclides in soil and some building materials produce a β-γ radiation field, which in some regions the exposure of these radionuclides to human is high. Materials and Methods: The air-absorbed dose, indoor and outdoor annual effective dose of soil and some building material samples (ceramic, granite, gypsum, etc.). The samples were collected from 3...

Background reduction and sensitivity for germanium double beta decay experiments

Germanium detectors have very good capabilities for the investigation of rare phenomena like the neutrinoless double beta decay. Rejection of the background entangling the expected signal is one primary goal in this kind of experiments. Here, the attainable background reduction in the energy region where the neutrinoless double beta decay signal of Ge is expected to appear has been evaluated fo...

A large-scale low-background liquid scintillation detector: the counting test facility at Gran Sasso

A 4.8 m3 unsegmented liquid scintillation detector at the underground Laboratori Nazionali de1 Gran Sasso has shown the feasibility of multi-ton low-background detectors operating to energies as low as 250 keV. Detector construction and the handling of large volumes of liquid scintillator to minimize the background are described. The scintillator, 1.5 g PPO/L-pseudocumene. is held in a flexible...
